Even as the Red Cross continues to provide emergency relief such as food and shelter, volunteers are creating community recovery plans and trained caseworkers will begin to provide personal support to survivors.
A Red Cross Service Center will open in the Giddings area tomorrow. Services provided will include case management, mental health services and distribution of clean-up supplies.
Saturday, June 4
10am – 5pm
Immanuel Lutheran School
382 N. Grimes St.
Giddings, TX. 78942
The Lutheran School site has also been serving as a shelter for those in need of temporary housing, food and personal items. Red Cross mobile feeding trucks will be serving hot meals twice daily in Giddings neighborhoods.
Disaster recovery is often measured in months and years; the Red Cross is there to provide hope, comfort and personally tailored support during that time. As the storm wains and residents begin recovery efforts, Red Cross vehicles will again be in affected areas to offer clean up tools such as rakes, mops and buckets, as well as comfort kits containing personal hygiene items.
Red Cross volunteers will continue disaster assessment in the affected areas to assist families who have had damage to their homes due to the high rainfall and flooding. The Red Cross also works with government and nonprofit partners, helping agencies develop recovery strategies and plans together as a group.
